Research and Development Scientist, Liquid and Gel Products

The Research and Development Scientist will have the following responsibilities:

  • Evaluate ingredients for their suitability in food and beverage applications with respect to sensory, stability and processing
  • Regular attendance and participation in sample testing and product development
  • Working on the benchtop while taking ownership of the lab and cleaning as needed
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, GLP, FDA, and regulatory guidelines
  • Ability to lead projects and people and get results through others
  • Develop experimental designs, perform benchtop experiments and report results
  • Understand competitive information and industry landscape to include feedback on identifying opportunities and finding resources
  • Team with clients to ensure the mixing of their formulations meet their requirements
  • Assist with product line enhancements or help in solving complex formulation issues
  • Support testing of samples for customers using GLP metrics
  • Support tech transfers, batch records, and mix instructions for products manufactured at company’s facility

  • BS in Biology, Chemistry or similar
  • 3-5 years’ experience as technologist mixing and formulating liquid gel and nutraceutical products in a lab / manufacturing environment
  • Project management responsible for participating and supporting new product development with new and existing customers
  • Work closely with team members in R&D and cross-functionally with sales, quality, and manufacturing
  • Project and product timeline management getting samples out efficiently and meeting production / commercialization targets
  • Create and document records and related documents
  • Identify new trends and market needs as they relate to R&D projects
  • Planning, scheduling, documenting and identifying resources
  • Must be willing to work on the bench actively developing / evaluating applications
  • Possess knowledge of formulation and processing for nutritional value, physical, chemical, and microbiological composition, taste and texture
  • Must be able to work independently and be self-motivated to complete projects
  • Lab understanding of pH testing, spectrometer use, raw ingredient testing, viscosity and titration testing
  • Collaborative with colleagues
  • Professional attitude with ability to respond to complaints from customers and regulatory agencies
  • Good problem solving and decision making skills
  • Must be able to work in fast paced environment with strong work ethic
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
