Scientist

The Scientist will have the following responsibilities:

  • Responsible for conducting adhesive research and development focused on the enhancement and expansion of adhesive technology capabilities for company Product Development and R&D support for new product and new technologies from concept to the transition to successful application and front-end commercialization
  • This position will provide adhesive research and development leading to critical early-stage product development and applied technology support for a full slate of adhesive products – to include some of the core products of the company – supplied to day to consumer, wholesale distribution and industrial customers throughout India, Singapore, Thailand, Brazil, Indonesia and China
  • Build and maintain strong relations with global and regional suppliers, allied suppliers and universities to identify new and evolving technologies and trends with a focus on high performance, high value adhesive development opportunities
  • This role will champion the enhancement of an Innovation Culture while partnering closely with Marketing and Sales functions to strengthen the New Product Pipeline and Innovation Portfolio
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding and commitment to meeting environmental regulatory requirements, Laboratory Safety practices and a safe work environment
  • Support the global business plan by development and commercialization of products at strategic customers and market segments

Requirements:

  • BS degree in Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer or Material Science is required, MS a plus
  • Seven or more years Adhesives Research and Development experience – managing and/or working in a range of technology functions – ideally including product development, application development, R&D, physical and analytical testing.
  • Some background in staff development skills – involvement in the hiring process, mentoring, training, motivating and developing increased levels of capabilities and performance
  • Recognized strengths must include Teamwork, Collaboration, and some level of Customer/ Market interface as well as successful adhesive development covering a diverse range of materials and applications
  • Accomplished in the use of product development processes – such as Stage Gate and Design of Experiment (DOE) to deliver new products/technologies
  • Familiar with current Ideation and Open Innovation Processes ideally as applied both internally and externally through alliances and/or joint development agreements with leading Universities, customers or suppliers
  • Technical background and understanding of high-performance adhesive systems – preferably structural adhesives; UV, two-component, and heat activated curing systems; chemistries such as epoxy, acrylic and PUR
  • Accomplished at providing concurrent oversight / management for a range of research & product development projects – from minor product fixes to the most innovative & technically challenging
  • Basic understanding of regulatory (including toxicological aspects) requirements for specialty chemicals as well as current relevant safety and environmental protocols for safe laboratory operations
  • Effective interfacing and building relationships internally with Sales and Marketing, Manufacturing, Finance and Business Management personnel and externally with Suppliers, Customers, Universities and within the R&D community
  • Computer Literacy: Microsoft Office Suite of products to include Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel, Microsoft Project; other technology related software and internet search capability – such as patent search techniques
  • Some people management & development skills – effectively managing technical personnel
  • Accomplished working in a cross-cultural team environment
