Job Description

Position Overview:

The Senior Accountant will assist the Property and Casualty Accounting Department in recurring close processes, preparation of financial statements and a variety of critical management reports like STAT and GAAP. This role is crucial in contributing to the oversight of multiple subsidiary deliverables and ensuring compliance with Sarbanes Oxley. The ideal candidate will manage financial reporting to ensure that they are accurate and comply with laws and regulations.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare general ledger activity (including journal entries), various state filings, reconciliations (e.g. bank and reinsurance) and accounts payable transactions.
  • Prepare schedules, analyze variances and provide analytical support for special projects, including ad hoc pro forma reports to assist management’ decision making process.
  • Assist with and/or prepare the quarterly general insurance group (P&C) consolidation.
  • Calculate and create reinsurance entries while preparing annual audit reports for assigned statutory companies.
  • Prepare and review loss development reports while conducting financial reviews and fluctuation analysis to assess performance and identify key trends.
  • Review general ledger activity (including journal entries), various state filings, reconciliations (e.g. bank and reinsurance) and accounts payable transactions.
  • Identify and implement process improvements by applying problem analysis/resolution techniques.
  • Additional job functions will be necessary for the success of this role.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Accounting.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in accounting; knowledge of insurance industry preferred.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of business and operational functions, procedures, and computer systems, along with a thorough understanding of Accounting and Finance applications.
  • Exceptional computer skills and Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel/MS Teams. Experience with Wdesk/Workiva, IBM analytics, or Biznet a plus.
  • Experience managing competing projects, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience with internal controls over financial reporting is preferred.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external business partners, consultants, and regulators.
