Senior Analytical Chemist

The Senior Analytical Chemist will be responsible for conducting analytical characterization for developmental, commercial and competitive products, and for developing new test methods to accelerate new product development.  This position will also work in conjunction with Manufacturing to provide analytical testing support for raw materials analysis and troubleshooting.

  • Developing and validating analytical test methods using techniques including FT-IR, NIR, GCMS, HPLC, DSC, TGA, GPC, microscopy, rheological DMA & RDA, Capillary Rheometer and wet-lab methods
  • Working with NPD scientists and engineers to identify and implement the most effective testing protocols for material and structural characterizations
  • Conduct routine testing in the lab
  • Collaborate as required with Manufacturing in designing raw materials testing protocols
  • Timely documenting of research projects
  • Working with various functions in troubleshooting process or product performance issues
  • Staying abreast of emerging analytical methods and technology through literature study, supplier contacts, and technical meetings, and incorporating the methods as appropriate
  • Timely documentation of summaries and periodic detailed reports on individual projects as required

Requirements:

  • PhD in Chemistry with a minimum of 10 years of industrial experience or MS in Chemistry with a minimum of 15 years of industrial experience and a significant knowledge of analytical techniques, pressure sensitive adhesives or polymer chemistry
  • Expertise in analytical methods including FT-IZR, NIR, GCMS, HPLC, DSC, TGA, GPC, microscopy, rheological DMA & RDA, Capillary Rheometer and wet-lab methods
  • Experience with rheological techniques used to characterize the performance of pressure sensitive adhesives
  • Experience with compounded adhesives and coatings, with an emphasis on Pressure Sensitive Adhesives, including saturates and printing
  • Experience in purchasing, installing, and setting up lab equipment preferred
  • Understanding of ASTM analytical methods
  • Working knowledge of statistical experimental design methods
  • Strong collaborative problem-solving skills and critical analysis of data
  • Willingness to act as a mentor as there is a younger analytical chemist and technician in this group
  • Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively to all levels in the organization, as well as with other functions
  • Ability to work independently and ensure tasks are completed within a team environment
