Senior Chemist – Thermoset Close Molding Resins

The primary purpose of the Senior Chemist is to conduct high quality lab work needed for development, industrialization and commercialization of new or enhanced products and technical support of existing products.

This position is responsible for leading and completing assigned projects related new business opportunities and maintaining existing business across multiple application areas.

  • Define performance requirements to be met in collaboration with R&D, operations sales and/or direct customer contact
  • Determine appropriate experimental approaches
  • Polymer synthesis, raw material evaluations, process studies, physical property testing, weathering performance, and varied applications testing of products are all part of the daily activities associated with this position
  • Assemble, interpret, and report results through including creation of reports and presentations for internal and external customers
  • Maintain projects in the Project Request system maintaining focus on priorities and deadlines. Project request maintenance includes status updates, adding applicable documentation, maintaining workflow status and preparing for closure
  • This position will interface with Commercial, EHS, Operations, Purchasing, R&D, and Technical Service
  • Requires 20% travel to customers, company manufacturing sites and/or vendors

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a PhD in Polymer Chemistry or Organic Chemistry with an emphasis in materials / polymers
  • Knowledge of the chemical synthesis, structure, and chemical and physical properties of polymers and macromolecules. Ability to transfer that knowledge into a lab environment for end-use formula evaluation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for both informal and formal (presentations, reports, papers) communications
  • Demonstrated ability to excel in a team environment including individual accountability and respectful attitude. Ability to interface with multiple functions and personnel levels
  • Demonstrated ability to work within program management guidelines, manage projects and meet deadlines – reassigning priorities as necessary
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize work effectively
  • Strong planning and organization skills. Ability to work with a critical, analytical and data driven approach
  • Ability to conduct literature searches and apply findings to guide research
  • Open minded, creative, high energy, innovative and optimistic. Unafraid of technical risk of failure
  • Basic computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs – some knowledge of SAP is a plus
  • Knowledge of statistics including design of experiments (DOE), statistical quality control (SQC) and statistical process control (SPC) method
  • Working knowledge of the Hazardous Communications Standard (OSHA CFR 1910.1200) and knowledge of lab Standard (OSHA CFR 1910.1450)
