Senior Food Scientist

We are currently seeking a Sr. Food Scientist of Value Capture to join the Category Marketing and R&D/Culinary teams to add a critical strategic connection between our brands and supply chain functions.  They will execute design-to-value initiatives within the R&D and Culinary Engine for Value Capture projects.  This role will support the execution of enablers, margin innovation, simplification, ingredient supply troubleshooting, and design-to-value across our portfolio of seven brands and work on behalf of the company overall.  This person will support the company’s strategic objectives and serve as a technical expert for value creation between brand needs and supply chain objectives.  They will provide expertise to ensure timely and accurate project completion and possess a high technical understanding of ingredients, food processing, product development, procurement, and supply chain.  This hands-on position executes projects and technical leg work for the best possible outcomes.

Essential Functions:

  • Execute experiments to uncover cost/supply/value tradeoffs and still win. Improve quality of our products while increasing repeatability of specs, reduction of complexity, reduce supply risks, and concurrently enhance margins
  • Research new ingredients or technologies that will create a competitive advantage. Studies methods to improve quality of food such as flavor, color, texture, nutritional value, and operations in support of strategic objectives
  • Leverage external vendor network for maximum benefit to the company. Validate new sources and suppliers for raw materials in compliance with established quality assurance standards, supply chain requirements, and brand needs
  • Conduct kitchen related work activities to support the development of new products, product line extensions, duplications, product and process improvements and cost improvements
  • Support the scale up, first production and quality assurance practices of the developed product through the commercialization process and identify areas for improvement
  • Communicate project risk and opportunity presentations to Culinary management
  • Conduct testing and coordinate value capture initiatives

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Engineering, or related field of Product Development from an accredited college or university (required)
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant work experience, with focus on cost savings, process improvement, procurement, supply chain, innovation, and product development
  • May be required to travel up to 25% of the time
