Senior Manager, Corporate Food Safety

The Senior Manager of Corporate Food Safety will lead the organization in developing, implementing, and ensuring continuous improvement of company’s food safety and food microbiology systems.  As the Senior Manager of Food Safety, this position will lead quality strategy development, policy development, and implementation, and organizational training to ensure the development and manufacture of high quality and safe products that are in compliance with food safety and regulatory requirements.  Job duties to include:

  • Lead in partnership with other Quality Managers the development and implementation of Food Safety Plans, HACCP, pre-requisite programs, and all food safety related programs to meet regulatory and/or customer requirements
  • Leads the development of Food Safety learning plans and serves as the internal and external subject matter expert in developing and maintaining Quality, Microbiological, and Food Safety Programs
  • Ensures compliance of rules and regulations on domestic and imported product by educating and influencing all functions of the organization including Quality, Operations, and R&D
  • Leads and ensures implementation and continuous improvement of traceability programs
  • Create, gain alignment, and implement a 3-year strategy to improve company’s overall food safety and quality systems across the organization
  • Provides leadership, support, and mentoring to other quality functions, plant personnel, and R&D
  • Monitor industry trends and emerging issues within food safety and quality to keep company on the leading edge of change
  • Leads the Crisis Management Team for Special Situations in partnership with other Quality Managers
  • Ensure sanitation of facility complies with food safety guidelines through the validation of the Sanitation Program and supporting the development and maintenance of the CIP Matrix
  • Management of programs for Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Integrated Pest Control Management, Allergen and Chemical Control
  • Manages the internal quality audit function for site and assures the effectiveness of the corrective and preventative action process within the framework of the plant’s Quality Management System
  • Support and guide Plant Quality Manager on all third-party regulatory audits (FDA, NYS, SQF)
  • Must be able to travel 50-75%

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Microbiology or related discipline with 10+ years of Food Industry Experience
  • Prior experience in both Corporate and Manufacturing Environments required
  • Minimum 3-5 years people management experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience with HACCP, SQF, GFSI, FDA and/or USDA audits
  • PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) and HACCP Certification required
  • 50-75% Travel Required to be based out of Chicagoland
