Senior Manager, Packaging Engineering
This role leads the Packaging Engineering, creates and ensures execution of the enterprise packaging strategy as it relates to emerging packaging technologies. In addition, this person will oversee all the packaging onboarding and qualification efforts for customers as well as company initiatives. This role will set the strategic direction for Packaging organization that aligns with company strategic imperatives. This role will deliver value for the company through the ideation and execution of innovation and supporting strategic sourcing projects that reduce & control cost, improve quality, drive efficiency, and contribute to positive social and environmental impact. This role will also serve as a technical resource to support cross functional team to execute various packaging material development and capital installation projects to drive top and bottom-line growth. They will be responsible for developing scalable, platformable packaging solutions and leveraging strategic partnerships to identify new spaces for exploration. The Senior Manager, Packaging Engineering will have direct reports and be responsible for leading, coaching and developing team members.
Job Duties:
- Provide strategic direction and technical leadership to Packaging Engineers and cross functional teams
- Lead and conduct packaging trials/launches to support new product commercialization timelines
- Develop and deliver innovative / renovative packaging solutions that contribute cost savings and position the packaging organization for future-readiness
- Build & maintain influential relationships with Procurement, Engineering, Operations, Sales, Innovation and Quality to ensure highly collaborative and successful project management
- Partner with Sales and Customer to understand customer packaging strategy and incorporate into company strategy
- Drive sustainable packaging solutions in partnership with internal & external (customer & supplier) teams in addition to developing packaging sustainability tracking & reporting matrix
- Collaborate with engineering to build out packaging line capabilities for various production locations and assist in scoping various packaging formats for aseptic and non-aseptic lines
- Leverage marketing & external network to support Open Innovation in technology scouting for novel applications and opportunities
- Identify strategic packaging technology suppliers to ensure partnerships are developed and supplier innovation activities are aligned with company innovation needs
- Develops, tests, reviews, and recommends proposals for packaging/equipment designs by translating needs of business into work plans, anticipating risks and incorporat6ing mitigation strategies, and developing succinct communication for senior leaders
- Provide technical analyses, develop alternatives (cost estimates, feasibility, specifications and interpretation of requirements), and prepare recommendations, as required
- Define & implement company packaging specification creation to supplier based on production line capability
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This position will have direct report responsibilities of packaging engineers. At times, they may also be required to supervise the daily activities of other employees or contractors working on projects he/she is managing

Salary
$150,000 - $160,000
Job Requirements
Technical Qualifications:
Education / Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Packaging Engineering or Packaging Science
- 8 or more years related experience in packaging development and commercialization experience in new product launches & cost-optimization within the CPG, pharmaceutical, or cosmetic industries
- 3+ years’ experience in management role with demonstrated career progression
- Aseptic experience and sustainable packaging experience is preferred
- Experience presenting competently to Senior Leadership, internal & external stakeholders, always representing the team in positive and professional manner
- Travel: 30% travel to different plant locations, suppliers and customers
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- CPP Preferred
