Sr. Principal Scientist – Dairy

  • Leads the development of new technologies with broad application for customers by working closely with marketing, sales, procurement, and manufacturing. Being able to execute new technology with customers by supporting in technical conversations, scale-up, and production runs.  Having a systematic approach to problem solving by having experience in using design of experiments, data analysis, and modeling.  Having the competency to use a formulator approach when design of experiment is not practical
  • Develops open innovation platforms to access the best technologies in the market place by utilizing scientific network of academia, customers, trade organizations, suppliers, etc.
  • Embeds knowledge management practices throughout the technology organization. Leading internal knowledge base on hydrocolloids and applications by effectively communicating to the company.  Effectively understanding the gaps in knowledge and putting plans in place to address areas of interest
  • Builds project management capability and supplies project management leadership. Understanding the project management process and ensure we maintain consistent movement in the process.  Provide input and guidance on how to improve the process.  Effectively manages projects by planning, designing, and scheduling experiments.  Manages the generation of technical data, developing supporting trial plans, data analysis, creation of design of experiments, and coordination of executables as needed, draw sound technical conclusions independently.  Ensures timely project progression through effective use of time and resources
  • Optimizes the portfolio by directing resources to highest priority projects. Understanding the dairy and non-dairy market segment and being able to provide guidance on highest growth areas and technical solution to fill gaps in market place
  • Implements new methods and processes to speed the time to market for new technologies. Ensuring the technical group is effectively transferring information to the commercial team
  • Advances scientific knowledge within the organization. Creating a protocol to build dairy and non-dairy database in a useable format.  Build hydrocolloid knowledge in a structure/function format for use in dairy and non-dairy application.  Ability to apply sound reasoning and judgment to address / mitigate standard and expected decision points.  Establishes procedures for collecting and analyzing data by other technical personnel.  Provides advice on solutions to complex and conceptual problems.  Reviews decisions and recommendations of more junior associates.  Makes decisions based on application of scientific method and through critical analysis.  Consistently makes high quality decisions with more limited information about complex and technical issues
  • Ensures resources are available to realize the company’s technology strategy. Prioritizing the key initiatives in the dairy and non-dairy application segment that is optimized to meet company’s objectives.  This should include short and long term objectives
  • Sets technology strategy for dairy and non-dairy segment for the organization and function. Drives objectives based on understanding technical capabilities and aligning with industry growth areas.  Demonstrates intellectual leadership by staying abreast of emerging technologies and scientific findings pertaining to relevant technical areas through published scientific journals and involvement in technical seminars and trainings.  Implements learnings to develop new and successful products and processes.  Identifies and addresses capability gaps in terms of knowledge, equipment and facilities and work with management to address these gaps
  • Collaborates with colleagues to achieve goals and objectives by being a team player. Very effectively uses others as resources and showcases ability to influence diverse teams.  Exhibits a high degree of cooperation in efforts involving others.  Demonstrated leadership ability to provide technical direction to a broad research program

Requirements:

  • MS Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Engineering or a related technical discipline, PhD preferred
  • 10 years’ professional experience, preferably within the food industry (ingredient or finished food) is required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Post-doctoral work can be recognized
  • 4+ years of dairy applications experience required
  • Experience with stage-gate or related process required
  • Previous management and leadership experience preferred
  • Demonstrated historical success driving projects through commercial launch
  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking required
  • Excellent communication skills required
