Senior Quality Specialist

The Senior Quality Specialist is responsible for executing the strategies as established by the Vice President of Quality and the Director of Quality Assurance within the established legal guidelines and internal standards to ensure the production of the highest quality products in the safest and most efficient manner.  This is accomplished by ensuring company suppliers and contract manufacturers have in place effective quality and food safety systems. 

Quality Tactics

  • Lead key quality and food safety objectives, goals, strategies and measures
  • Provide quality and technical support to product development teams in the design, development, and implementation of company products
  • Develop and implement quality and product safety program(s) such as HACCP, Quality Assurance Plan, etc. at co-man, supplier, and/or warehouse to secure company requirements
  • Lead root cause and corrective action within company and at co-man, supplier, and/or warehouse
  • Ensures company quality and food safety standards are fully implemented at company suppliers and contract manufacturers
  • Conducts and manages both internal and third-party audits of suppliers ensure compliance to food safety standards, good manufacturing practices and specification compliance
  • Work with suppliers to implement corrective actions to reverse negative trends in manufacturing related consumer complaints. Drive root cause analyses, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities
  • Assure that all materials intended for use in company finished goods meet all applicable food safety, regulatory, and quality standards. Work with suppliers to implement corrective actions as necessary
  • Statistically analyze quality data and identify potential problem areas to prevent issues
  • Provide feedback to Operations regarding suppliers and contract manufacturers to deliver raw materials, packaging materials, and finished goods that comply with specifications / design at optimal costs and minimal risk to the business
  • Lead commercialization and CQV (commissioning, qualification, and verification) for new and existing product initiatives with little to no supervision
  • Lead consumer complaint investigations
  • Ability to travel as required performing all job requirements

Collaboration

  • Works in a collaborative environment with external and internal partners
  • Collaborates / Develops with Quality Assurance leadership action plans and recommendations on major quality and safety concerns
  • Key external interface with company suppliers and co-manufacturers
  • Works on cross-functional teams to champion the resolution of key quality issues

Requirements:

  • BS Food Science, Food Safety, Chemistry, Masters preferred
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP, Food Safety Management, Auditing and Food Microbiology
  • Strong knowledge of Government Regulations 21CFR Part 110 and 111, FSMA
  • Knowledge of retail regulations in food and/or dietary industry
  • Strong knowledge of root cause and corrective actions
  • Quality Systems including GMP’s, Statistical Process Control
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems in a complex manufacturing facility
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to build trust and respect
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, to effectively implement and facilitate new ideas, processes, and programs into a new production facility
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Mandarin desired
  • 5-10 years of manufacturing quality assurance experience in a leadership role such as a QA Supervisor
  • HACCP Coordinator
  • SQF or BRC Practitioner
  • Experience working in a quality function in supplier quality or contract manufacturing
  • Ability to represent the company needs when dealing with vendors, contract manufacturers, regulatory agencies, and other departments within the corporation
  • Working knowledge of plant layout and manufacturing operations to effectively troubleshoot and correct production related problems and recognize constraints and limitations affecting new product design and implementation

  • Product conformance to specifications and requirements
  • Placing non-conforming product on “hold”
  • Notification of quality and safety issues
  • Identifying risks and expedient communication of issues

Recommendations

  • Coman and warehouse quality system improvements and infrastructure requirements
  • Disposition of non-conforming product and fitness for use of materials not meeting specification
  • Modifications to raw material and packaging specifications

Travel

  • Up to 50%
