Senior Scientist, Consumer Products Research – Coffee R&D

The Senior Scientist, Consumer Products Research – Coffee R&D is responsible for understanding consumers’ needs and translating them into technical requirements and consumer models to drive business impact throughout product development, qualification and launch.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilize marketplace trends and consumer insights to develop product models to guide development of products that will delight their consumers
  • Translate consumer needs to specific technical product requirements and package attributes
  • Collect, organize, analyze and report various types of data including consumer test data, technical product data, consumer comment data
  • Participate in the stage gate process through delivery of Products Research deliverables in technical and commercial readiness reviews
  • Become a subject matter expert on the consumers and products related to the coffee category
  • Define and influence Products Research methods and activities used for consumer understanding, product development, and qualification of projects
  • Identify, qualify and manage external research agencies capability to deliver fast and affordable learning

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred
  • At least 5 years of products research experience within the consumer products industry is required; experience in consumer food manufacturing is preferred
  • Mastery in the development and execution of consumer research test designs with primary focus on products research (quantitative and qualitative), technical design of experiments, applied statistics, sensory and shelf life analysis
  • Experience using JMP and/or SPSS consumer research / statistical analysis software is preferred
  • Proven history of working independently with guidance only in complex situations
  • Project management experience would be highly valued for this role, as the individual will manage specific Products Research projects and initiatives
  • Proven ability to organize data accurately and effectively, in-depth knowledge of statistics a plus
  • Strong Products Research coaching skills to help develop research team members and their career growth
  • Strong collaboration skills and experience partnering with other functions to deliver results
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to a variety of stakeholders across functions
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, simultaneously managing multiple projects and changing priorities
  • Solid understanding of scientific process and laboratory documentation
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time is required
