Sensory Scientist II

The Sensory Scientist II position fills a key lead role within their growing Global R&D sensory function and thus requires a self-starter that can manage diverse responsibilities.  These responsibilities include execution of internal and customer-driven sensory protocols (including data analysis, presentation and recommendations), development and initiation of a new internal training and education program, and presentation of company's sensory capabilities to outside stakeholders.  The role requires descriptive, discriminative and consumer sensory expertise and experience combined with leadership and communication acumen.  Finally, this position supports their global business of meeting and exceeding current customer expectations but also their Research and Innovation group.  The successful candidate will have broad exposure to multiple other company functions including Sales & Marketing, Regulatory, Quality, Operations/Manufacturing and Finance.

*Manage internal innovation and customer-driven projects

*Manage and lead company internal sensory training program descriptive and discriminative

*Effective project management including planning / assessment, analysis, recommendation and communication

*Develops project objectives and strategies in response to business needs, executing, and recommending action plans to implement key findings

*Report writing and presenting

*Sensory Software program experience; Compusense, EyeQuestion, Fizz, Red Jade, Slims, etc.

*Has thorough understanding of analytical work and analyze and interpret sensory data using any of the following programs:  R, SPSS, XLSTAT, SAS, Senpaq, etc.

*Able to solve complex problems; capable of collecting information from various sources both internal and external

*Potential for people management; mentor and coach junior employees

Requirements:

*MS (preferred) / BS in Food Science or other related sciences with a focus in Sensory Science

*3-5 years post-degree experience in sensory setting

*Food and Beverage experience preferred

*Ability to work accurately, quickly and with good laboratory practices

*Ability to adapt to changing priorities and support multiple projects within a given day

*Excellent people skills particularly in the areas of conducting training sessions

*Candidate must possess good documentation skills and be adept at working within programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.

*A positive attitude, a team player, engaging and able to communicate thoughts and ideas effectively

*Excellent communication skills and broad understanding of company business
