Sr. Analytical Chemist

We are looking for a strong individual contributor who will be responsible for analytical work.  You will be primarily responsible for planning, conducting and reporting on analytical and chemical research aimed at discovering and developing new hydrocolloids and systems for use in food, industrial and personal care applications.  The role will also provide general analytical support to the business, including QC, regulatory, and commercial.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Developing new analytical test methods, carrying out routine lab testing, working with a team to conceive and develop new ideas and methods for the production of new products
  • The candidate will carry out characterization and performance evaluation of new materials employing state of the art methods in polymer, physical and analytical chemistry
  • Expands expertise in are of analytical chemistry
  • Monitors current market trends and/or institutional practices in area of analytical chemistry and hydrocolloids
  • Creates, analyses, recommends new methods, techniques and/or process across functions
  • Drives development of technical knowledge and expertise of analytical chemistry to improve company products and solutions
  • Recognized leader/contributor in the area of analytical chemistry of biogums
  • Writes/reviews definitive publications of significant scientific importance
  • May manage a small team
  • May lead GTI (Growth Through Innovation) projects

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry or closely related field or master’s degree with applicable experience. Minimum of 3-7 years of post-graduate experience in analytical chemistry, preferably with hydrocolloid characterization
  • Advanced knowledge in the are of analytical chemistry and knowledge of related disciplines such as rheology and other physical measurements is desired
  • Hands-on experience with IC, HPLC, GC-MS, FT-IR, and nIR is required
  • Ability to work on new and complex problems and implement innovative programs and tools accordingly
  • Ability to identify and analyze new opportunities and anticipate risks in areas of activity
  • May develop, mentor and coach others
  • Applies technical concepts and experience to complete highly complex programs
  • Influences the direction of development of a broad technical specialty
  • Strong project management experience
  • Will advise multiple projects
  • Write/reviews definitive publications of significant scientific importance
