Sr. Food Technologist

Help lead the R&D team, managing projects and ensuring scale up and stage gate timelines are met for commercialization of products.  You will wear a few hats in the lab ensuring ingredient functionality through production is successful and taking ownership of the results of the team.

The Senior Food Technologist is responsible for developing new and maintaining existing products.  This role includes new formula development, creation of benchtop samples, and scale up activities that ensure products re successfully commercialized.  This position works closely with plant operations to ensure formulas meet capabilities and can achieve consistent quality targets.

The Senior Food Technologist works with project teams to execute against timelines, ensuring samples, analysis and customer needs are met.  Strong data analysis skills are required, with the ability to interpret and take action on key findings.  The position will ensure accurate and appropriate record keeping and will aid in the creation and maintenance of specifications.

  • Develop new products
  • Maintain / update formulas
  • Lead plant trials and assist first production runs as needed
  • Accurately maintain R&D project records, proactively providing status reports, as required
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to achieve project objectives
  • Work with suppliers and procurement to source new ingredients to aid in the development process
  • Assist in the RFP process with formula and sample development
  • Create & update specifications (formula, finished product and/or process & packaging)
  • Participate and organize sensory evaluations for new and commercialized products
  • Participate in quality and process improvement opportunities
  • Keep current with changes in technologies and regulation for the countries we do business
  • Some travel is required (US and Canada), going to trade shows, IFT, etc.

Job Requirements


  • BS Food Science, Food Technology or related scientific field
  • 4+ years’ experience working in the food industry in research & development roles
  • Strong time management, planning and data analysis skills with ability to problem solve independently
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to communicate at all levels within the organization and externally (customers, suppliers)
  • Ability to learn our business, to be a team player and enjoy working in a fast paced, team-oriented environment
  • Good general understanding of business and financial principles
