Sr. Manager of Product Development

Seeking a Senior Product Development Manager, R&D.  This position is a managerial product development role for existing products and for the development of new products, with a focus on nutrition and overall health.  This is a key role in support of a major growth initiative for the company.

  • Manage Technician and/or Technologist level team members to execute against project timelines for pipeline activities
  • Develop team-members technical and professional skill-set through mentoring and training
  • Drive strategy and development for new and improved products, from concept to commercialization
  • Manage technical direction of projects – identifying key deliverables and next steps and communicating to team
  • Lead key cross-functional meetings with Marketing, Business Leadership and Operations to support development initiatives
  • Oversee specifications, shelf-life, and scale p activity for new products and brand maintenance
  • Define product design to meet consumer requirements, including identifying product evaluation parameters and leading internal and external consumer testing
  • Define testing criteria, equipment requirements for innovation and growth
  • Supervise plant trials and start-up activities
  • Develop processes around key R&D functions including analytical testing, shelf-life, sensory evaluation and IT Systems
  • Deliver ownable product designs through the use of IP management and ensure ‘Freedom to Operate’ working with internal legal counsel
  • Identify opportunities for product improvement including nutrition, performance, cost, manufacturing, and ingredients
  • Identify innovation opportunities with Suppliers and Contract Manufacturers
  • Collaborate on quality activities including risk assessments, HACCP and root cause analysis
  • Travel up to 20% required

  • Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry or Equivalent BS degree required, with a strong preference for a higher degree
  • 8+ years of experience in R&D, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance in food and/or supplement industry
  • Proven track record of successful product implementation from concept to commercialization
  • Industry leading understanding of ingredient functionality, product evaluation, health and nutrition, food manufacturing processes, microbiology, quality assurance principles, and market research practices
  • Ability to influence project teams and drive business strategy
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to create cross-functional teams
  • Ability to rapidly and effectively respond to changes in project scope and focus
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex projects with overlapping timelines
  • Preference for management experience
  • Strong drive for results and execution ability
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral, and ability to work effectively with teams
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
