Technical Director – Lubricants

The duties and responsibilities of the Technical Director will include the following:

• Provide local leadership (mentoring & coaching) to the group of chemists and scientists to help enhance organic growth. Sustain and develop talent and position people for success
• Collaborate with multiple functional areas (including manufacturing, purchasing and sales)
• Provide guidance to chemists and technicians on formulation development and product troubleshooting
• Solve problems of diverse scope, including product/process development, product/process improvement, field issue resolution, manufacturing efficiencies, and outsourcing support
• Deliver design advances for product and process development
• Network internally and externally, to acquire information for projects and identify future opportunities
• Develop short-term and long-term plans related to staffing, and overall project planning
• Collaborate and lead cross-functionally to ensure that all facets of product development are accomplished smoothly
• Develop project schedules, incorporating key tactical items for other functional areas. Plans out in detail technical portions of all projects including operational pieces
• Gaining proficiencies in the company’s scale-up process from formulation development on to commercialization
• Conduct review meetings as necessary to ensure that the Product and Process Development priorities are aligned with those of management of the functional areas (Administration, Sales and Marketing, Operations, Logistics, Quality, EH&S, etc.)
• Build out successful lab practices to ensure safety and deliver high quality products
• Collaborate with other Directors on the leadership team

Technical Qualifications:

• MS/PhD will consider years of experience in certain cases
• 5 years of leadership experience (direct reports and strategy)
• 5 years of formulation experience – Aerosol solvent and waterborne
• Able to manage 25-30 simultaneous projects by delegating duties to 2/3 chemists and a technician
• Be a Leader for the company by inspiring new ideas, driving strategies, reducing costs, and motivating the team
• Proven ability to hire and grow a technical team
• Have a large industry network to help bring best case practices to the company
