Job Description
Technical Director
The Technical Director will lead and develop the technical team that oversees manufacturing support, quality control, regulatory, R&D projects, and customer satisfaction. This includes leading the identification and successful completion to launch new products and the management of a strong pipeline of projects to support consistent flow and injection of strategic new products. The position will lead R&D for manufacturing and quality control, including testing and technical laboratory management. Key emphasis is placed on creating a culture aligned within the goals of the company to build key technical and leadership capabilities within the team while maintaining a productive, diverse, and engaged workforce, comprised of the best talent. The Technical Director will report to the company President.
- Set strategic direction and determine staff goals / objectives / priorities for technical team with responsibility for product formulation, method development, product quality control / management, and compliance to ensure delivery of company goals
- Promote prioritization of support for manufacturing, product quality, and facility compliance activities
- Ensure flow of new product projects, in support of company and customer goals for new product launches and oversight of project timelines
- Lead and direct technical team to align with customer satisfaction, including product use and application, product quality, environmental / regulatory issues, and new product development
- Prepare reports and presentations for company and customers
- Provide technical and strategic business advise to the company president
- Lead ad hire staff in alignment with the values identified by company president
- Overall team leadership including setting individual / team goal, ensuring employee development, providing on-going coaching and feedback, recognizing employees for their contributions, performing annual performance appraisals, enabling meaningful career experiences, and creating an inclusive and safe work environment
- Travel to customer sites as necessary – travel 10%

Job Requirements
Technical Qualifications:
Experience:
- 10 years minimum in a paper/food packaging coating environment
- 3 years minimum in a management position within the R&D function
Education:
- Master’s or Ph.D. in chemistry, polymer coatings, paper engineering, or related field (Ph.D. preferred)
Skills:
- Strong leadership (communication, coaching, motivation, team building
- Strong problem-solving ability
- Superior organizational skills
- Proven ability to manage R&D projects
- Proven ability to work effectively with technical staff, senior management, production team, sales team, and customers to accomplish company goals
- In depth knowledge of coating formulation, paper manufacturing / coating, food packaging coating, and related quality control and testing matters
