Technical Director

We are currently seeking a “hands on” person capable of both managing and conducting multiple projects related to process development, material development, customer support and applications development.  Demonstrated knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology required, including applying principles, techniques, procedures and equipment to the creation, development and production of various fiber-based goods.  Candidate must have operational knowledge of various laboratory / pilot plant equipment related to fibers.  Duties to include:

  • Hands on formulation and New Product Development
  • Develop and evaluate peer handsheets as they are processed
  • Management of technicians and quality associates as it pertains to scale-up and development (3-4 individuals)
  • Work with raw material suppliers on procurement, evaluation, and client management
  • Ensure technical competencies are aligned with business objectives and strategies
  • Communicate to management: Progress on development projects, significant technical or market findings which may offer new business opportunities

Requirements

  • Candidate must have degree in materials science, chemistry, or paper science. PhD in above disciplines is preferred
  • Candidate must have background in fibers
  • Experience with technical (wet-laid) papers is preferred, along with engineered materials and composites
  • Candidate will be expected to be active participant in business development, introduction and commercialization of products and leading technical support for customers
  • Seeking an individual with a high level of energy
  • Someone who wants to explore new ways of conducting business and is pro-active
  • Individuals that are happy in small company atmosphere, where they will wear many hats
  • Extroverted individual that will be happy visiting customers and providing technical support
  • Great oral and written communication skills
  • Individuals that will create a great work culture, and develop a team to support business needs, and succession plan
