Technical Protein Scientist – Remote with travel

You are the Technical Meat Formulation expert for this region.  You will use your hands-on background and knowledge in meat protein formulation to demonstrate how to fully utilize company equipment for their meat or alternative protein products.

You will go onsite to customer’s labs and manufacturing facilities to do these demons using the company’s equipment already in place or other competitor equipment, and how the company’s equipment would be optimally better from formulation through production.

Your primary responsibility is supporting the company’s customers during pre and post-sale of customer meats extrusion and blending equipment.  This includes both new demonstrations, troubleshooting, etc.

You will be responsible for assisting/advising/consulting with a wide variety of customers in the Food Production Industry in matters of Research and development and accompanying them on product formulation whenever needed.

In this position you can expect to travel overnight 75%+ each week, spending much of your time strengthening the company’s relationship with major / key accounts as well as firms that are on the leading edge of new food product development including plant protein companies.

Additional responsibilities also include participating in industry trade shows, and industry association meetings, and training sales when needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the determination of the mat formulation and production applications to automate our customer’s meat processing manufacturing lines
  • Advise the customer’s staff on proper Standard Operating Procedures and guidance on proper equipment usage in formulating meat products
  • Provide training and education of formulation techniques and capabilities to the customer’s employees
  • Educate fellow employees and customers in R&D matters / formulation of protein and plant – based protein products
  • Advise and coordinate with supplier partner with observations regarding their equipment and usage in the US marketplace
  • Become a Produce Line expert for all Sausage and Burger making equipment and applications sold by the company
  • Identify other applications that customers in the plant based and Fish / Seafood Processing may be able to utilize and advise to sales team where applicable

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Meat Science or Animal Science or Certificate / Diploma / Master Butcher designation
  • 5-10 years’ experience Meat protein work is absolutely required
  • Previous experience in formulation and processing with Vemag, Handtmann, Risco or similar machinery
  • Experience in working with large meat-based plant operations preferred
