Technology Principal, Cheese

The Technology Principal, Cheese with have the following responsibilities:

*Plans, coordinates and conducts research and development programs of considerable scope and complexity leading to new or improved products, processes or packaging systems

*Contributes to the development of project strategies and recommends technical direction to management

*Supports the identification and exploration of innovative, complex technical areas in order to establish new strategic initiatives that support business objectives.  Support new product innovation strategic plan by surfacing technologies for consideration

*Effectively communicates research findings and recommendations to internal and external customers

*Leads cross-functional teams charged with the development of new product opportunities.  Maintains strong cross-functional relationships

*Ability to manage multiple projects of varying complexity, adapting to changing priority and direction.  Possesses excellent project management skills, documentation, communication, and ability to influence both internally and externally

*Understands and has the ability to teach/mentor others, both internally and externally, in technical area of expertise

*Monitors and evaluates technical trends in their specific area of expertise or assignment, and makes recommendations for process or product improvements and identify opportunities for new or improved process or products

*Utilizes or directs internal (process engineers, marketing, quality systems) and external (suppliers, consultants, universities) functional experts to resolve issues

*Monitors outside activities in the area of expertise and maintains strong external relationships in the scientific and academic communities in order to maintain current technological knowledge base

*Conducts or supervises the testing and scale up of new products from bench top to commercialization.  Develops in process and finished product specification limits, manufacturing instructions to ensure product quality / consistency critical to product quality

*Maintains written technical documentation and product and process specifications

*May indirectly supervise Scientists or directly supervise pilot plant technicians/technologists.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, and addressing complaints and resolving problems

Requirements:

*BS with at least 8 years of related experience; or MS with at least 4 years related experience and/or training, or PhD with 3-5 years of experience and/or training.  MS in Food Science, Dairy Science, Microbiology, or similar preferred

*5+ years of experience in natural cheese strongly preferred

*Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public

*Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic, equations and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis

*Strong computer skills are necessary for this position, including word processing, presentation and spreadsheet software, SAP, internet and email

*Ability to define problems, collects data, establish fats, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
