UV Curable Adhesive Tech Service Rep

The Sr. Technical Service Engineer is responsible for building a comprehensive understanding of company Pressure Sensitive Adhesives for Advanced Packaging and Converting including formulation, physical properties, analytical properties, bond performance, and manufacturing. Develop knowledge of the Pressure Sensitive Adhesive markets including Labels, Tapes, and Specialties markets. Use product line knowledge, interpretation of lab testing results, and understanding of applications and equipment to provide technical support with the goal of maintaining current business and growing new business in partnership with sales. Leverage UV coating and converting equipment expertise to train customers on machine set up, safe operations, and maintenance for UV acrylic adhesive application.
Key Activities
- Develop test plans and write lab reports to make data-based product recommendations
- Execute trial plans on company application equipment to optimize adhesive performance
- Participate in customer qualification trials to ensure successful conversion to company solutions
- Provide technical training and guidance, educate customer operations personnel and new company sales associates
- Aid customer in machine setup: Prepare the UV coating equipment for operation, ensuring proper alignment and calibration
- Adhesive Application: Apply UV hot melt adhesive rolls using the coating equipment and give instruction on UV light dosage and power
- Instruct customers on maintenance on the coating machine and UV lights, including cleaning and troubleshooting the application
- Develop relationships with UV light and HM coater equipment suppliers to understand trends, troubleshoot issues etc.
- Work as a joint team with the account manager in developing customer relationships and future growth
- Overall responsibility for the lab work performed for all customer projects
- Lead CEI investigations of performance issues to determine root cause and suggest corrective actions
- Actively participate in MST meetings and develop collaborative internal cross-functional relationships
- Develop technical relationships with Allied Suppliers and support company presence at trade shows
- Expected 50% travel: NE, SE, and CA. Mostly planned to install, set up, run trials on equipment at customers’ sites with new UV Curable products, there would be some troubleshooting that might be last minute
Accountabilities
- Collaborate with Sales to build knowledge of customer products and applications, identify customer needs, provide appropriate product recommendations, and support customer’s new production qualification process
- Manage technical projects and lead problem resolution through a thorough understanding of the customer need/issue, completion of lab analyses and pilot trials, effective and efficient use of company resource, and coordination of support from other company functions with responsiveness and a commitment to timelines
- Build trusting, sustainable relationships with customers by bringing valued solutions through broad market and material knowledge, providing technical recommendations based on statistically derived data, working with company processes to protect the customer’s interests, and providing a consistent positive customer experience

Job Requirements
Qualifications / Experience Required
- BS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Process Engineering, Polymer Science or related technical field
- 10 years of experience with coating or converted equipment
- Minimum two years of experience with Pressure Sensitive Adhesive processing for a variety of tapes, labels, and specialty applications, knowledge of dispensing technologies is also desirable
- High degree of mechanical aptitude for commercial converting equipment
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to understand customer needs and requirement
- High level of ability to communicate effectively verbally and through reports & presentations
- Proficient in MS Office including statistics in Excel
- Travel up to 50%
