UV Ink / Coatings Tech Service Chemist

The UV Ink / Coatings Tech Service Chemist will have the ability to interact effectively with customers and company business management and sales teams to effectively solve high priority, technical problems and accelerate product development efforts.  Support the development and commercialization of new products.

  • Identifies and uses internal and external resources / experts to help solve high priority, technical problems and accelerate product development efforts
  • Identifies root causes of more complex customer / product problems
  • Develops analytical strategies and executes action plans to resolve causes utilizing external / international laboratories or resources
  • Solves technical problems by making product and process recommendations
  • Submits technical needs and/or new project ideas to R&D group
  • Organizes, analyzes data and explains conclusions / outcomes to customers, global R&D and management
  • Demonstrates competence of statistical design of experiments and analysis of results
  • Works with the customer and offers scientifically-based advice when faced with ambiguity, incomplete data and time pressures
  • Effectively communicates risk levels inherent under above circumstances
  • Determines validity of product performance complaints using product specifications, QC data and lab results
  • Determines suitability of products or product concepts to meet the customer specifications and performance requirements
  • Routinely solves assigned and self-uncovered complex scientific problems with initiative
  • Actively promotes safety to ensure a safe work environment and compliance with company and government regulations
  • There will be 33% travel mostly in the US but some international travel as well

Requirements:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or other relevant technical field, or BS degree with 12+ years, or MS degree with 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Proficient with computer software applications (word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, etc.)
  • Proficient with Design of Experiment techniques and their interpretation / implementation
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills by maintaining good customer relationships
  • Conducts customer trials, internal trials and analyses with minimal or no supervision
  • Demonstrates expertise in products, processes, and their applications
  • Makes product and process recommendations to customers
  • Understands BS strategy, customers, products, business, applications and markets
  • Strong knowledge of standards and regulations that impact markets and products
  • Knows how to manage multiple projects with varying priorities while achieving desired results in timely manner
  • Recognizes and anticipates when intellectual property protection is needed
  • Understand when to operate under a CDA, will negotiate the relevant documents, and will handle the disclosures appropriately
  • Can operate effectively within the bounds of a JDA
  • Experience with inks, printing and radiation cured materials preferred
  • High level of written and oral competency
  • Effectively communicates and presents at multiple levels both internally and externally
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to generate short presentations that quickly make a point
  • Demonstrated social skills including arrangement of casual entertainment such as group presentations, small lunches or dinners
  • Ability to organize effective and enjoyable product and process design seminars
